Jonathan is playing politics of do-or-die like President of Côte d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo– Obasanjo

Jonathan is playing politics of do-or-die like President of Côte d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo– Obasanjo

Former President has unleashed another attacks on President Goodluck Jonathan, acusing him of playing politics of do-or-die like President of Côte d’Ivoire, Laurent Gbagbo and that Jonathan is afraid of being jailed by Buhari if he loses.

Obasanjo said this on today at his hiltop mansion in Abeokuta while speaking with newsmen shortly after he returned to the country from his overseas trips.

Obasanjo while reacting to the postponement of the election said, the postponement of the election was a grand plan by Jonathan and his cronies to perpetuate office till the situation becomes clear that the election would favour him.

He acused Jonathan of playing a brand of politics played by President Gbagbo who he said had delayed the presidential election of the country and when he eventually conducted the election and lost refused to leave the office.

According to Obasanjo, I was away because I had a number of assignment abroad which took me to Morocco, Munich, Nairobi, London and New Delhi. Exactly a week today, when we were in Munich for what they called Munich security conferences annual event and all people who are in security community normally, you found them there.

“For this year, the Vice President of America was there, the Secretary of State, John Kerry was there, the Chancellor of Federal Republic of Germany was there, President of Ukraine was there and many others.

“I was there with Koffie Annan, our side was to talk about peace and security in Africa, I was to handle the African perspective while Koffie Annan was to look at it from the global perspective.

“While I was out, I refused to make any categorical statement on this issue because I wanted to come back home and learn at first hand what actually transpired and what was going on, and it turned out to be a forced decision on the INEC because it was alleged that the Security Chiefs were unable to provide security and as a result the Chairman of INEC had to postpone, in accordance with the dictates of the so called Security Chiefs.

“I thought for me, that was bad precedent for democracy in Nigeria, it meant it doesn’t matter what preparation or lack of preparation any electoral body could make in Nigeria, the final decision weather election will take place on the day scheduled for it lies in the domains of the security, it is a sad day for democracy in Nigeria.

“And I will say this, we must all feel concern before democracy is killed. The observable and what would appear to be happening is that the president has a grand plan, a grand plan to ensure that by hook or by crook, he wins the election or if it all fails, they scuttles it and create chaos, confusion and unpleasantness in the whole country.

“Because it is the duty and function and responsibility of the security officers to provide security, the President is the Chief Security of the country and he is the Commander in Chief and if security is required anywhere anytime, it is his duty to provide it, failure to provide it is deriliction of duty, pure and simple.

“Either the President following his own grand plan or his aides and associates are working a script, they are playing a script which must not got his endorsement if not initiated from him.

“What again it looks to me is that the President is trying to playing Gbagbo, Gbagbo was the former President of Cote d’Ivoire and Gbagbo made sure he postponed the election in his country until he was sure he would win and then allowed the election to take place, he got an inconclusive election in the first ballot and I believe this is the sort of thing Nigeria may fall into if I am right in what I observed as the grand plan and then in the run-off, Gbgbo lost with 8% behind Ouattara and then refused to hand over. All reasonable persuasion and pleading was rebuffed by him and he unleashed horror in that country until nemesis caught up with him.

“I believe that we may be seeing the repeat of Gbabgo or what I called Gbagbo saga here in Nigeria, I hope not .

EXPOSED: PDP's Next Move As Judge Is Paid N2billion To Disqualify Buhari; Plot Thickens to Blackmail Jega Into Resigning

EXPOSED: PDP's Next Move As Judge Is Paid N2billion To Disqualify Buhari; Plot Thickens to Blackmail Jega Into Resigning

After succeeding in securing poll postponement, PDP has begun its next mo‎ve to ensure that the presidential candidate of APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, does not emerge as the winner of the election.
After the postponement announcement, PDP was quick to applaud the decision while APC fumed. Millions of Nigerians sneered, even as people around the world took the news of postponement as a shock too difficult to believe. But close watchers of Nigeria's political trend  believe the success of this first move is critical to the next move to ensure Buhari is not allowed to contest the election.
Sources confirmed that it was not the security issue that was the problem in driving the election postponement agenda, it was Buhari that PDP leaders do not want. They also feared Jega is too independent and difficult to rally into the PDP scheme that will ensure that Jonathan succeeds in the plot and so he must also go.
As PDP celebrates the postponement success, the President's kitchen cabinet is  pulling another string again to ensure that if he cannot have his way to take another shot at the presidency,   Buhari's hope must also be dashed and Nigerians' desire for change is aborted.
As reported by The Monitors few days ago, dependable sources in the know of the plot have again confirmed that the Presidency has procured ‎a pliable judge with a bill of N2billion to give a disqualification verdict that will bar Buhari from the presidential election holding on March 28. Events in the court tomorrow, Monday February 9, will shape the events to come as already concluded by the President's men.
It was learnt that National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, Chief Edwin Clark, all service chiefs‎, some Yoruba leaders opposed to Tinubu's clout, Ayo Fayose, and several others are insisting that Jonathan should deploy "everything at your disposal to stamp your authority to have your way".
Fayose reportedly insisted that the President should deploy soldiers in Ekiti State, saying that he had information that APC is planning Ekiti as its base to launch resistance against the plan for the president to have his way. Sources hinted that Fayose's suggestion was supported by Omisore, Obanikoro, Minister of Police Affairs, Jelili Adesiyan and Buruji Kashamu.m
Sources hinted though that a caucus within PDP is urging caution against rushing into the court matter on Monday, but they explained that this is a tactical plan to cool the anger among Nigerians who are not happy about the postponement. "This may boomerang," they reportedly cautioned.
Sources confirmed that the safety net for the judge who will disqualify Buhari is immediate relocation to Dubai where a palatial home is already prepared for him and members of his family. The plan is to relocate the judge finally from Nigeria, For the judge's safety, he is to leave the court straight for the airport for a waiting airplane to fly him out to safety.
As part of the bargain, his proxy in Nigeria is to execute the multi-billion naira contracts facilitated by the presidency to enable the judge have a blissful sojourn in Dubai.
Starting from Monday, relentless allegations of illegal conduct‎s will be launched against Jega. They will include embezzlement, INEC contract scams, secret deals with APC and sundry alleged crimes that will paint Jega black that will natural elicitate clamours for his sack to save the credibility of the election.
More media smear campaigns will be launched against Buhari and Jega with AIT and NTA playing leading roles.‎ More Yoruba leaders will be drafted to lend anti-Buhari/Jega voice in the media. OPC members loyal to Faseun group will be heavily mobilized. Gani Adams is reportedly being cautious about his involvement, but reports suggest he is under tremendous pressure from Governor Segun Mimiko to join in pro-Jonathan scheme.
This came as details of Ekiti poll fixing scandal involving the President, Ayo Fayose, Musiliu Obanikoro, Chris Uba,  Iyiola Omisore, General Momah and others emerged at the weekend.
It is believed ‎that in days ahead, this scandal  will dominate political space with more pressure on Fayose with Jonathan having difficulty to defend himself over his alleged involvement in Ekiti scandal.
According to sources, international media may take Ekiti matter beyond what the President may have ever contemplated. In fact, sources said Jonathan would meet the most embarrassing moment of his life as events unfold on Ekiti issue.
Facts had earlier revealed in a secretly recorded meeting of Jonathan's men held at Fayose's Spotless Hotel which confirmed that President Jonathan was the chief author of the scandal. That much Obanikoro explained in his speech while telling the army officer to get serious in his assignment.
Obanikoro had said in the tape: "I am not here for a tea party. I am here to carry out the assignment by Mr President."
Details of how Fayose and his gang got INEC computers and soft copy of election materials were revealed by Fayose and Chris Uba during discussion and this was secretly recorded in the meeting.
The Army officer, Captain Sage Koli, who secretly recorded the meeting, has since resigned his commission from the Nigerian Army and fled to exile. In the tape, Fayose was heard fuming, giving details of his plan that involved the President, Chief of Army Staff, Brigadier General Momah of the 32 Artillery Brigade based in Akure. Fayose was also heard talking about how he collected soft copies of sensitive materials from INEC, including its computers. Details of the scandal are on the nets being read  around the world.
Now that Jonathan will  find it difficult to connive with bad elements in INEC to have access to its computers and soft copies of the election materials for illegal printing of ballot papers to fix March 23 and April 11 polls, the option left is to get rid of Buhari and blackmail Jega to force his resignation.‎ The plan is already concluded, but whistle-blowers are at work to save Nigerians from the callous anti-democratic behaviour of the President who is fast building a reputation for himself as the most dangerous President Nigeria has ever produced.
President Jonathan has drawn a line between his ambition and Nigerians' desire to elect the President of their choice. How the president hopes to win the battle is left to conjecture.‎ But it is not in doubt that corrupt judges, in spite of their oath of office, have constituted themselves as a big challenge to the growth of democracy in Nigeria. But sources said Jonathan and the judge and their collaborators will be shocked out of their wits by the time the whistle-blowers monitoring their plans  release the more details of their perfidy to the world leaders who abhor corruption and election manipulations.
The Monitors is on their trail too. Details of their next move will be released as they come.

Jega’s speech on poll timetable‎

STATEMENT ON THE TIMETABLE FOR 2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS BY THE CHAIRMAN, INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC), PROFESSOR ATTAHIRU M. JEGA, AT A PRESS CONFERENCE ON FEBRUARY 07th, 2015

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Introduction:

We invited you here today to make known the position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the timetable for the 2015 general elections. Let me state from the outset that the Commission’s position was reached after carefully weighing the suggestions from briefings held with different stakeholders in the electoral process.

The conduct of elections in a country like Nigeria is invariably a collective venture that involves not just the Election Management Body (EMB), but also a diverse range of stakeholders, notably security agencies, political parties and their candidates, voters, as well as interest groups, such as the civil society organizations and the media. To guarantee successful conduct of elections, there are things that are wholly the responsibility of the EMB. But there are other things critical for the success of elections, which fall outside the control of the EMB.

In other words, while INEC must work hard to perfect its systems and processes for conducting elections, and take responsibility for any imperfections thereof, whatever the Commission does may not by itself be sufficient to guarantee the success of elections. There are a number of issues in the preparation and conduct of an election, the most critical of which is security, which is not under the control of INEC.

Current State of INEC’s Preparedness:

On Thursday, February 5, 2015, I was invited to brief the National Council of State, which is the highest advisory to the President comprising past and present leaders in Nigeria, on the level of preparedness of INEC to conduct the 2015 general elections. I made a presentation to the Council titled ‘Preparations for the 2015 General Elections: Progress Report,’ in which I gave a detailed account of what the Commission has been doing in readiness for the national elections (National Assembly and Presidential) scheduled for February 14th, and the state elections (Governorship and State Assembly) scheduled forFebruary 28th, 2015.

The summary of my presentation to the National Council of State meeting is that, for matters under its control,  INEC is substantially ready for the general elections as scheduled, despite discernible challenges being encountered with some of its processes like the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) by registered members of the public.

In addition, INEC has been doing everything it can to facilitate the collection of the PVCs by registered members of the public. As at 5th February 2015, the total number of PVCs collected was 45, 829, 808, representing 66.58% of the total number of registered voters.

In the delivery and deployment of electoral materials, INEC is also at a comfort level in its readiness for the general elections as scheduled (see the presentation to the Council of State). The Commission’s preparations are not yet perfect or fully accomplished. But our level of preparedness, despite a few challenges, is sufficient to conduct free, fair and credible elections as scheduled on February 14th and February 28th. Compared with 2011 when, within a short time, we conducted general elections that were universally adjudged free, fair and credible and the best in Nigeria’s recent electoral history, our processes aretoday better refined, more robust and therefore capable of delivering even better elections.

Other Variables:

But as I mentioned earlier, there are some other variables equally crucial for successful conduct of the 2015 general elections that are outside the control of INEC. One important variable is security for the elections.

While the Commission has a very good working relationship with all security agencies, especially on the platform of the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) since its inception in 2010, it has become pertinent for it to seriously consider the security advisory presented to it by the Security and Intelligence Services. I would like to reiterate here that INEC is an EMB and not a security agency. It relies on the security services to provide a safe environment for personnel, voters, election observers and election materials to conduct elections wherever it deploys. Where the security services strongly advise otherwise, it would be unconscionable of the Commission to deploy personnel and call voters out in such a situation.

Last Wednesday, which was a day before the Council of State meeting, the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) wrote a letter to the Commission, drawing attention to recent developments in four Northeast states of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe currently experiencing the challenge of insurgency. The letter stated that security could not be guaranteed during the proposed period in February for the general elections.

This advisory was reinforced at the Council of State meeting on Thursday where the NSA and all the Armed Services and Intelligence Chiefs unanimously reiterated that the safety and security of our operations cannot be guaranteed, and that the Security Services needed at least six weeks within which to conclude a major military operation against the insurgency in the Northeast; and that during this operation, the military will be concentrating its attention in the theatre of operations such that they may not be able to provide the traditional support they render to the Police and other agencies during elections.

INEC’s Decision:

We have done wide ranging consultation to enable us have as much input as is necessary before taking an informed decision. In the series of consultations that we held with stakeholders, the questions consistently posed to them for consideration are:

In view of the latest development, should INEC proceed with the conduct of the general elections as scheduled in spite of this strong advice; and if so, what alternative security arrangements are available to be put in place?

Or, should INEC take the advice and adjust the schedules of the general elections within the framework of Constitutional provisions?

The Commission held a meeting after the consultations, and decided to take the advice of the Security Chiefs and adjust the dates of the elections. We have done this relying on Section 26(1) of the Electoral 2010 (As Amended), which states thus: “Where a date has been appointed for the holding of an election, and there is reason to believe that a serious breach of the peace is likely to occur if the election is proceeded with on that date or it is impossible to conduct the elections as a result of natural disasters or other emergencies, the Commission may postpone the election and shall in respect of the area, or areas concerned, appoint another date for the holding of the postponed election, provided that such reason for the postponement is cogent and verifiable”.

INEC not being a security agency that could by itself guarantee protection for personnel and materials, as well as voters during elections, the Commission cannot lightly wave off the advice by the nation’s Security Chiefs. The Commission is specifically concerned about the security of our ad hoc staff who constitute at least 600,000 young men and women, together with our regular staff, voters, election observers as well as election materials painstakingly acquired over the last one and half years. This concern is limited not just to the areas in the North-eastern part of Nigeria experiencing insurgency; the risk of deploying young men and women and calling people to exercise their democratic rights in a situation where their security cannot be guaranteed is a most onerous responsibility. Under such circumstances, few EMBs across the world, if any, would contemplate proceeding with the elections as scheduled. No matter the extent of INEC’s preparedness, therefore, if the security of personnel, voters, election observers and election materials cannot be guaranteed, the life of innocent young men and women as well the prospects of free, fair, credible and peaceful elections would be greatly jeopardised.

Consequently, the Commission has decided to reschedule the 2015 general elections thus: the national elections (i.e. Presidential and National Assembly) are now to hold on March 28th, 2015; while the state elections (Governorship and State Assembly) are to hold onApril 11th, 2015. It should be noted that this rescheduling falls within the constitutional framework for the conduct of the elections, notably, Sections 76(2), 116(2), 132(2) and 178(2). See also Section 25 of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended).

For the avoidance of doubt, we will under no circumstances approve an arrangement that is not in line with the provisions of our laws. Our hope is that with this rescheduling, the security services will do their best to ensure that the security environment needed for safe and peaceful conduct of the 2015 elections is rapidly put in place.

We in INEC reassure all Nigerians and indeed the international community of our commitment to do everything within the law and to conduct free, fair, credible and peaceful elections. We call on the security agencies to honour their commitment to restore sufficient normalcy for elections to take place within the period of extension. We also call on Nigerians, political parties, candidates and all other stakeholders to accept this decision in good faith and ensure the maintenance of peace.

As for us in INEC we’ll endeavour to use the period of the extension to keep on perfecting our systems and processes for conducting the best elections in Nigeria’s history. In particular, we believe that we would resolve all outstanding issues related to non-collection of PVCs, which agitate the minds of many Nigerians.

Finally, we wish to call on all Nigerians to accept our decision, which is taken in good faith and the best interest of deepening democracy ion our country.

Thank you.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to postpone the general elections scheduled for February 14 and 28, 2015 for about six weeks to enable the Multi-national Joint Tast Force (MNJTF) to secure parts of the North Eastern region, currently troubled by Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

INEC authorities held a meeting with the leadership of political parties and Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) and Security Agents on Today, February 7, 2015.

The Presidential and National Assembly elections originally scheduled for February 14 have been shifted to March 28 while the governorship and states houses of assembly elections earlier slated for February 28 have been been moved to April 11.

The change in the elections date was officially announced by INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega some minutes ago.

With Boko Haram still holding swaths of territory in the North East, millions could be disenfranchised which warranted the shifting of the polls.

The presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier called for the shifting of the polls due to security and logistics reasons while the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) have insisted on the polls holding as planned.

With the said postponement, about 30 million citizens are to receive their voter cards, thereby including a large percentage of the electorate in the electioneering process.

Prof. Attahiru Jega is presently responding to questions from the press........
